LW Birthday

Edit: Apparently, publishing from my iPhone messes up the coding. There I fixed it. 😉

It’s my LovelyWife’s birthday tomorrow. Last week I asked her what she wanted for a present.
‘Oh, I don’t know,’ she said . ‘Just give me something with diamonds.’

That’s why I’m giving her a pack of playing cards.

Hey at least they’re awesome cards!

Like I always say, it’s good to be the King!

P.S.: This post wouldn’t work at all in French, because diamonds are not called diamants, they’re called panes or tiles (carreau) as in window panes or floor tiles, and LovelyWife would never ask for “Quelque chose avec des carreaux“.

The awesome image of the King of Diamonds is from my friend Dave2 from Blogography, used with his permission.

  1. every time a child of our turns one I get a big ring with real jewels. I can say that one can never EVER go wrong with jewelry for the ladies. you might want to think about a nice watch or bangle bracelets from a jeweler for your wife. I have a petite gold watch from our jewelers. That was lovely five years ago and I still wear it every day feeling loved.

otherwise, perfume is the best- I enjoy Chanel’s COCO- Chanel No. 5 smells too tart and old lady. Go to a good store and sniff around-bring your daughter for the experience, it’s fun. Or gift certificate for a massage or getting her hair done is always nice if she likes that sort of thing.

There’s always the night away at a hotel, sending the kids to relatives if you can. That trumps pretty much everything.

In a pinch, if you’re a tightwad or a cheapskate, you can get a bunch of roses, a whitman’s sampler and people magazine. but, then you have to explain to her bought her gifts at the grocery store. which is really bad form.

    😉

  2. @Mrs. Hall: I had to look you up a little more closely to make sure you were not my LovelyWife under another identity, trying to give me oh-not-so-subtle hints about possible presents. I was wondering if you were, because if you were, I would be in so much trouble! You see, you pretty much hit every single thing that LW says she doesn’t like. 😉 She’s very hard to shop for. Luckily she already has the best possible thing. Yes, I mean me. 🙂

  3. Again, my French is shite… “Quelque chose avec des carreaux“ would mean she was asking for playing cards with a diamond suit? And for the gems it would be “Quelque chose avec des diamants.”?

My little one is just starting to learn French, so I’m trying to learn too. Merci beaucoup!

  4. @Finn: well, “avec des carreaux” could mean “with squares” “with tiles” “with window panes”. The word “carreau” has more than one meaning – none of them diamonds. And you are right, “diamants” is diamonds in French.

  5. I would totally ask for something with tiles. Like , I dont know — a new bathroom, a new patio… Or better yet, diamond tiled spa!

Thank you and merci everyone for the wishes!
