Remote-ly interesting

Here I am at home listening in via web conferencing to Educause. Normally*, I’d be in Orlando listening live, moving from session to session, complaining about the heat and humidity, bitchin’ about the food and so on.

But of course, since my little event in June – I may post about this later, or not as most of the people reading this are already aware of what happened – traveling is not part of my immediate future, so I’m sitting here listening and watching talking heads and slides on the laptop, from 8am to 6:30pm. Those are really long days. Presenters are for the most part decent, but the subjects are not interesting (to me).

I think the conference is as bad as I remember. When I said normally before, I should clarify that I have not been going to Educause since 2010 or 2011, because the last 3 Educause conferences I went to were not that great. This one is par for the course.

I’m not sure if watching by webcast is a curse or a blessing. On one hand, I can sit here in my underwear, unshaven and unshowered (how is this not a word?) and still get paid. On the other hand, spending the day staring at the computer screen is pretty boring – and no it’s not the same as working on a computer all day.

On the other other hand, I love to multitask, so you’d think this fits right up my alley – I can cook, play guitar or even repaint the living room at the same time… Meh.

I’m just tired. I need a vacation from this time away from the office.
